Hoton Parish Council News - October 2020
New councillor for Hoton
Welcome to Katie Smith, who responded to the request for residents to step forward and has been formally co-opted as a parish councillor. We have now filled all of the parish councillor vacancies but are still seeking volunteers to join our working parties. If you have time to commit to a single issue, such as speeding, the playing field or any other village improvement projects please speak to a councillor or contact the clerk.
Obstruction of pavements
The Parish Council is cognisant of the limited parking in certain areas of the village but it would be appreciated if cars are not parked so as to obstruct the pavements. Shrubs and vegetation should be trimmed back to not overhang property's boundaries obstructing pedestrians. This is the individual property owner's responsibility.
As winter draws in, adequate access for pedestrians along the pavements becomes more important. The Parish Council requests all neighbours to think of others in this respect and act accordingly.
We are sorry, but the increase in coronavirus cases means the telephone kiosk book share remains out of bounds. There is a risk of passing Covid-19 via the books and door-handle and we do not currently have the ability to operate the facility safely. This position will be reviewed in November.
There were no reported crimes in July. In June, police attended a road traffic accident; the injured parties fled the scene due to driving whilst under the influence. A theft and a burglary from a business were reported in August.
Advance notice of road closures and events
Roadworks are planned on Melton Road in Burton on the Wolds for three days commencing 19th October and from 2nd November for ten days. The diversion routes for these will pass through Hoton and may result in increased traffic.
As a trial for covid-safe competition, English Athletics are planning to hold cross country events on 17th and 31st October around the Prestwold Estate. These events will operate with staggered arrival times and reduced numbers which should reduce any traffic congestion that might otherwise have occurred on Prestwold Lane. You may, however, wish to plan where you walk on these days to avoid coming into contact with competitors.
Next Parish Council Meeting
The next meeting will be on Monday 2 November 2020. This will be via the Zoom platform and details of how to 'attend' the meeting will be posted on our website and the noticeboards with the agenda. If you wish to be sent an agenda you should sign up to our mailing list at https://www.hotonparishcouncil.org.uk/emailing-lists.html . Residents are always welcome at our meetings; time is allocated for your questions or comments.
